New verification tools aim to shield job seekers from fraudsters posing as recruiters or executives.
New layers of verification
LinkedIn has announced a new set of measures aimed at authenticating users and making professional networking safer. The platform will now verify companies with paid Premium Company Pages, extending a feature that was previously limited to select organizations. By requiring verified status, LinkedIn hopes to strengthen trust between businesses and potential candidates.
Recruiters and hiring managers will also face stricter identity checks. People using titles such as “Recruiter” or “Talent Acquisition Specialist” will require verification to root out fraudsters. This move is meant to reassure applicants that the job opportunities they see come from real people and real organizations.
Shielding against executive impersonation
The new measures will also impact senior leadership roles on the platform. Users claiming executive titles such as “Vice President” or “Managing Director” will now undergo a vetting process to confirm their employment and position. According to LinkedIn, this step is essential to preserving companies’ reputation by ensuring that individuals in high-profile roles are accurately represented.
The company emphasizes that preventing impersonation at the executive level is just as critical as protecting job seekers. Fake leadership profiles can mislead both employees and external partners, eroding trust within professional networks.
Addressing a growing scam problem
These initiatives come amid a surge of recruitment-related fraud. Over the past two years, job scam reports have more than doubled, according to international watchdog data. Scammers frequently lure victims with offers or flexible remote roles, sometimes demanding personal data or upfront payments during the process.
Recent alerts, such as one issued by the Better Business Bureau (BBB), highlight the persistence of fake recruiting agencies targeting vulnerable job seekers. LinkedIn’s verification updates represent a push to block such schemes before they reach their targets.
